International & Bilingual Sign Show
Everyone has certain moments in life that are important for the development of your future life. For our performers, the moment they fell in love with a particular dance style was very important: this was the start of a professional dance career. For South Limburg, our home base, a much bigger moment was characteristic: the creation of the coal mines that have formed entire cities.
With Grondslag we delve into the past and investigate what has shaped us into who we are. We are inspired by the mining history that has shaped South Limburg into the province we know and look for common ground between the past and our dance company. For the first time, in addition to dancers, we are also adding a VV artist to the dance company. VV stands for Visual Vernacular and is an art form from the Deaf community. The art form revolves around portraying objects or stories using gestures in combination with strong facial expressions.
Grondslag takes you to the basis of our company. All dancers have a background in urban dance styles. These styles are raw and underground, but are the foundation for the dance landscape as it currently exists. The VV artists have sign language as their mother tongue, which is also where VV has its origins. This basis merges with the Dutch mining history on stage to create a unique and visual performance.
Performers : Anggun Musri, Boaz Blume, Riva van Baardewijk & Saskia Neuen
Interpreter : Fauve Doudouce
Tour manager, technician : Floris Mentink
Choreographer, director : Sharon Wesseling
Duration : 40 min
Production : 20 Hertz
